Women in African American History
|
Women have always played a great role in creating history. But women were not even allowed to come out of the house in past. There was a time when women were just meant to serve household purposes. Their duty was to look after their husbands, family and bring up their children.
This situation was similar in almost all the countries of the world. We know that America is one of the most advanced countries of this world but it also had such a past where women did not have any right.
This went on for a longer period of time but finally a revolt helped women come out of their houses voice their feelings and they even got the right to vote. The black women who belonged to the African American were much more subjugated.
They were bought by the white settlers to work as slaves in their house. Slavery was a common problem among the women in African American history.
Later on these women started revolting and the American war of independence started changing lots of thing. After the revolution the white as well as the black women started voicing their discontent. They came out on the streets and spoke for the abolition of the slave system.
The women in African American history started speaking about their experience through literature. Literature became their tool for protest. They started writing poems, novels and short stories.
There were various African American women writers who were awarded for their work. Some of them even started taking up careers like singing and acting. The story of the black women created sympathy and compassion in the minds of people and they stared dealing with this problem seriously.
The civil was usually taken up by these people who had been tortured by the white for so many years. Along with the men the women were equally involved in the war which helped them create changes in the social forum.
Many eminent black men and women came to the forefront during the war. Women in African American history made it right to the top after certain point of time. Maya Angelou was a singer, writer, activist, actress as well as a poet of African American origin.
Marian Anderson was a popular singer present in the black history of African American. These women have written some of the most popular quotes in the history of Africa America.
