The American Historical Review (AHR) is the official publication of the American Historical Association (AHA). The AHA was founded in 1884 and chartered by Congress in 1889 to serve the interests of the entire discipline of history. The journal also publishes approximately one thousand book reviews per year, surveying and reporting the most important contemporary historical scholarship in the discipline.
The journal for American history- Published four times a year by the Organization of American Historians, the JAH is the leading scholarly publication and the journal of record in American history. Published quarterly in March, June, September, and December, the Journal continues its nine-decade-long career presenting original articles on American history. In addition to our print issues, the JAH creates a wide range of online projects, including our biannual Teaching the JAH and special projects such as "Through the Eye of Katrina" and "American Faces."

American Nineteenth Century History is a peer-reviewed, transatlantic journal devoted to the history of the United States during the long nineteenth century. It welcomes contributions on themes and topics relating to America in this period: slavery, race and ethnicity, the Civil War and Reconstruction, military history, American nationalism, urban history, immigration and ethnicity, western history, the history of women, gender studies, African Americans and Native Americans, cultural studies and comparative pieces.
Retrospective essays examining landmark works by major historians are also regularly featured. The journal covers all areas of American history including cultural history, intellectual history, political history and philosophy, religion, social history, gender, sexuality, popular culture, law, military history, and economics.
Diplomatic history- As the sole journal devoted to the history of U.S. diplomacy, foreign relations, and national security, Diplomatic History examines issues from the colonial period to the present in a global and comparative context. The journal offers a variety of perspectives on economic and strategic issues, as well as those involving gender, culture, ethnicity, and ideology.
